Call for participants for ISHA winter seminar “Multiple Baltics: Reimagining Social, Cultural and Spatial Dimensions of History”!

Organized by the International Students of History Association (ISHA)

The International Students of History Association (ISHA), in cooperation with the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Latvia, invites history students and young researchers of all levels to apply for the winter seminar “Multiple Baltics: Reimagining Social, Cultural and Spatial Dimensions of History”, which will take place from December 3 to 7 at the University of Latvia in Riga. Applications will be accepted from September 22 to October 10.

The ISHA winter seminar is a series of academic and cultural events aimed at students and young researchers with the goal of providing a platform for presenting and discussing research, promoting international cooperation and networking among history students from different countries, and fostering the development of academic skills.

Academic Program and Sessions

The academic program of the seminar consists of an introductory lecture, discussions, interactive workshops, and student presentations, divided into three parallel thematic sessions:

  • Digital History: Spatial and Social Aspects of the Baltic History — Digital analysis methods and tools for historical research, including Voyant, Gephi, and Transkribus, with training on document collections from the National Archives of Latvia.
  • Critical Cultural Heritage: Narratives, Conflicts, and Transformations — Examining cultural heritage representation in the Baltic region, including workshops with “Critical History Tours” and audio guide development projects.
  • The PhD Workshop — Transfer academic and cross-cutting skills such as developing a doctoral work plan, strategic planning for mobility, and public speaking, tailored to doctoral students.

Registration and Fees

Apply by October 10 by filling out the questionnaire. Acceptance letters will be sent by October 15th.

Accepted international participants will be asked to pay a registration fee of €50 by October 20th. The fee covers access to all workshops, lectures, and social/cultural programs. Accommodation and meals are covered for all participants.

Please note: Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements. Visas are not provided.
